For most businesses, the question isn't whether to coat the concrete. Bare concrete dusts, stains and looks tired fast. The real question is which kind of epoxy floor suits each part of your building. We install two systems for commercial floors in London and Southwestern Ontario, and plenty of businesses use both.
Full-flake epoxy & polyaspartic
This is the same layered system we install in garages: a basecoat with a full broadcast of decorative flake, finished with a clear polyaspartic topcoat. It suits spaces where customers, members or staff see the floor every day.
- Best for: showrooms, retail, gyms, offices, auto shops and service bays.
- Looks: finished and professional, with 72 flake colour blends to match your space.
- Day to day: the flake hides dust and wear between cleanings, and the topcoat won't yellow in sunlight from windows or open bay doors.
Solid-colour epoxy
A uniform colour coat over ground and repaired concrete. It's the practical choice where the floor is a work surface.
- Best for: warehouses, workshops, storage rooms and back-of-house areas.
- Looks: clean and bright, which makes a big space feel lighter.
- Day to day: easy to sweep and mop, and dropped parts and spills are easy to spot.
Mixing systems in one building
A common setup is flake in the customer-facing areas and solid colour in the back: a flake showroom with a solid-colour service area, or a flake lobby with solid-colour storage. We'll walk the space with you at the site visit and recommend what fits each area.
Planning around downtime
Every layer needs time to cure, so a commercial floor means part of your space is out of service for a few days. On our flake system you can walk on the floor 24 hours after the topcoat and drive on it after 48 hours. We'll give you the exact schedule at the site visit and plan the work around your hours.
What matters more than the system
Whichever look you choose, the floor only lasts if the concrete is prepared properly. We diamond-grind every floor, repair cracks and damaged concrete, and build the coating in layers. Great Blue is fully insured with $5M in liability coverage and WSIB compliant. See commercial epoxy flooring or book a free site visit.
